Spartan Race at le Massif de Charlevoix

Exciting send-off for summer event program!

Petite-Rivière-Saint-François, May 30 2013 – At today’s Le Massif de Charlevoix press point, 20 or so journalists gathered for the Spartan course trials in preparation for the race taking place Sunday, June 2 2013. Over 5,000 participants are expected at the Massif de Charlevoix Spartan Race, a new and epic event in the Québec City region. As the world’s leading obstacle race series, high registration numbers attest to the event’s ever-growing popularity, and to le Massif de Charlevoix’s prized reputation among sports and nature enthusiasts.

The Spartan Adventure - an amazing challenge for participants of all ages!
At the Mountain, a 5 km on-trail race course includes twenty or so obstacles. With the Elite Category in the first heat at 9am, other departures take place every half-hour until 4pm. A kids’ race is also set up, with fundraising proceeds going to Horizon Charlevoix. Assorted locations will be available onsite for spectators to watch this amazing feat. To register or for details, visit Spartan Race or email.

For Le Massif de Charlevoix, hosting the Spartan Race is the perfect send-off for its summer event program. In fact, for the very first time in its history, the Mountain will be open this summer, to the great joy of hiking and outdoor enthusiasts.

The Mountain: a playground for nature lovers
Thursday to Sunday from July 18 to August 18, the Mountain will be open to visitors from here and beyond, thanks to the rail shuttle in service between Baie-Saint-Paul and Petite-Rivière-Saint-François. Another first, lift Le Transit will also be in operation, conveying rail shuttle passengers to the new hiking trails set up at the base of the Mountain: Le Forestier (2.6 km loop), and La Promenade (7.6 km two-way hike). Interpretive panels provide details about this inhabited natural kingdom, while guides will be on hand to answer questions. Later, on the weekends of September 28-29, October 5-6 and 12-13-14, the Massif Fall ColourFest will be in full swing. In celebration of the Mountain’s fall regalia, the gondola will be in operation and there will be family activities, a foodservice, the Rossignol Bazaar with their newest product lines, and the new winter earlybird sale.

The rail shuttle: an original way to enjoy two Charlevoix activity hot spots
The rail shuttle connecting Baie-Saint-Paul to Petite-Rivière-Saint-François officially starts service in July. This new and alternate mode of transportation offers visitors and residents alike the opportunity to admire magnificent riverside scenery, and enjoy a full range of activities both at Hôtel La Ferme and at the Mountain, without ever needing a car. Schedules and fares are expected to be announced next week. Details at Le Massif website.

Hôtel La Ferme: free shows, cultural discoveries and comedy
As the rail shuttle’s departure and arrival point, Hôtel La Ferme is also hosting a full lineup of summer cultural events and happenings. Every Sunday from June 2 to October 12 2013, from 10am to 3:30pm the farmers’ market will be welcoming visitors and locals alike, sharing everything there is to know about Charlevoix terroir products and savoir-faire. Cooking and art workshops are back in full force too this summer, from 11:45am to 12:30pm.

At the heart of a diversified event program where passion and authenticity are everpresent, the public is also welcome to attend free outdoor musical performances, from 1pm to 2:30pm. Among the artists performing this season on the public square are Marc Dery, David Giguère, Jamil and Philippe B, co-produced by Le Festif! de Baie-Saint-Paul.

La Salle Multi is presenting two comedy shows: Boucar Diouf on July 18 and Sylvain Larocque on August 22. For reservations and show details, call 418 240-4114. The fall event program is expected to be announced shortly; please go to Le Massif website for details.

The Train: a culinary and sensory adventure amid spectacular Charlevoix scenery
From May 4 until October 14 2013, the touring train is offering singular rail cruise experiences in synergy with the landscape. There are four summer rail cruise options: Baie-Saint-Paul Discovery, Escape to La Malbaie, a Twilight Supper Cruise and a Baie-Saint-Paul - La Malbaie Escapade. This last excursion is an all-new short rail cruise along the most beautiful leg of the entire journey.

Personalized packages for an unforgettable Charlevoix getaway
In addition to Show + Overnight Stay packages paired with all summer cultural events presented at Hôtel La Ferme’s Salle Multi, le Massif de Charlevoix is also offering other summer packages. Whether choosing a rail cruise on the Train, a culinary experience at restaurant Les Labours, a stay at Hôtel La Ferme, a moment of blissful relaxation at le Spa du Verger or a day in the great outdoors at the Mountain, le Massif de Charlevoix is the summer’s top destination to get away from it all.
