The Train - general presentation
Travelling 140 km between Québec City and La Malbaie across 85 km of incomparable riverside scenery, the Train of Le Massif de Charlevoix offers a singular rail cruise experience along mountains and seashore.
On their rail journey, passengers enjoy rare exposure to breathtaking vistas, discovering the region’s history, its culture and hidden treasures over breakfast or lunch fragrant with regional flavours, and entertained by a multimedia presentation. Later on their return trip as dusk performs its colourful finale, depending on the season travellers feast on gourmand après ski fare or a gastronomic dinner composed of rich terroir ingredients. On their destination stopover, travellers are free to visit the Charlevoix’s many local attractions and by Summer 2012, enjoy onsite activities and infrastructures at Hôtel La Ferme – of which a public square, terroir market, station café and multifunctional venue. Or, they can board the new rail shuttle that connects them to the Mountain.
Exclusive by Design
The Train consists of entirely restored railcars designed to place travellers before the beauty of the landscape, heightening their awareness of this rich natural environment and its conservancy. With interiors and appointments that are far from conventional, the convoy’s stunningly contemporary signature is sure to astonish passengers who soon forget they are on board a train.
The Experience: Unique
Beyond travel, the staging. As the rail cruise and nature gently unfurl, a multimedia show modulates the interior ambience, activating electronic shelves triggered by the passing landscape. The eight railcars accommodating a total of 492 passengers also feature assorted car configurations, textures and decors tailored to evolve as the journey and the seasons advance, or to the special requests of group clienteles.
An Adventure in Gastronomy
As passengers climb on board, they embark on a journey across Québec’s premier destination for gastronomy, savouring the terroir at its best over a three-course breakfast or lunch on the morning journey, and either gourmand après ski fare or a gastronomic dinner on their return trip. Presented with an exclusive menu created by Executive Chef Jean-Michel Breton of the Fairmont Le Manoir Richelieu, gourmands and gourmets alike are sure to also appreciate the intimate, comfortable quarters specifically designed for experiencing this uniquely distinctive culinary adventure.
''All Aboard''
With regular departures year-round, the touring train offers assorted rail cruise packages tailored for individual travellers as well as group and corporate clienteles. It creates the perfect backdrop for celebrating an anniversary or hosting a special event – with full charters on request.
Riding the Charlevoix Rails Again
In January 2009, Groupe Le Massif acquired Chemin de fer de Charlevoix, a section of track between Québec City and Clermont destined for its touring train and rail shuttle, and the freight trains serving the region.
