- Motel-style inn with a Swiss ambience (the owner – who’s crazy about skiing - is a native of Switzerland) – and so explaining the room names! Very clean, spacious room. There’s a refrigerator. Parking in front of the room, practical for coming & goings. Small table with parasol on the parking terrace. Owners are very friendly. Calm location, 2 minutes by car to the downtown core where there are loads of lovely restaurants, boutiques and art galleries, and 15 minutes to Le Massif de Charlevoix. The advantage of spending the night at Portes du Soleil is having breakfast at Le Massif. Early morning first tracks are absolute bliss.
- What a delight to be met by Nicolas himself as we arrived at the hotel. From the moment we arrived he made us feel welcome, and was incredibly friendly. The hotel sits a few blocks away from the touristy part of Baie-St-Paul - something we found to be an attractive element. Rue Saint-Jean-Baptiste - one of the focal points of the town - is a very easy 10 minute walk. The hotel was very clean. Our party consisted of two adults and two children and we stayed in the Edelweiss Room. Very spacious - two room "apartment" with a full bath. Very nicely decorated and true to form as depicted in the photos on the website. While the hotel sits on a main road into town, we were never disturbed by the very light traffic coming through. There is no pool at the hotel - something that would have been fun for the kids to do in the evening, but generally we packed our days with so much to see/do that we found the quiet time together in the evenings to be quite nice given the quality of the rooms.
