Formed in Montreal in 1994, band the PLANET SMASHERS quickly established itself in the metropolis as the ambassador of ska, owing to devillishly fun shows and ska sound with pop overtones. Released in 1995 under the Stomp label (created by band leader Matt Collyer), their debut album soon launched an incredible musical career.
Released in 1997, their second effort, Attack of The Planet Smashers, soared to the top of university and college charts where it stayed for over two consecutive months. In those days, the PLANET SMASHERS were already a national phenomenon freshly surfacing from the underground scene, touring and filling halls and arenas across Canada.
As the ska movement grew with bands like the Mighty Mighty Bosstones and No Doubt, and with the release of their third album entitled Life of The Party, the PLANET SMASHERS literally took on the entire continent. The five musicians eventually went on to win the Best Ska Band category at the Mimi Awards, and attracted the attention of recording multinationals and other international music scene moguls.
Most independent bands can’t hold a candle to the PLANET SMASHERS. With countless North-American and European tours and a 2002 Japanese tour, these 5 time guests of the Vans Warped Tour have propelled their name to the top of the Canadian music industry charts. Do not miss The Planet Smashers on March 29 during the Massif Open.
