Record Season Numbers - 13% SURGE IN SKIER VISITS AT LE MASSIF DE CHARLEVOIX

13 April 2010

Charlevoix, April 13 2010 – Last Sunday, April 11, ski and snowboard enthusiasts were enjoying their last turns on snow as the 2009-10 season inscribed itself in Le Massif de Charlevoix’s history, showing a 8% rise in skier visits in comparison with 2007-08’s record performances, and a 13% increase over last year.

Clement weather, abundant precipitations, quality services and sustained marketing blitzes bolstered such strong end-of-season results after 118 days of operation, while visit goals established early season by management surpassed all expectations.

True to its Reputation, Snowfalls Soar to 615 cm on precipitations Chart
In the general manager’s opinion, snowstorms on the eve of Christmas and March Break are not at all unfamiliar to high visitor volume during these peak periods. “Once again, the 615 centimetres registered on the precipitations chart confirm our reputation as a premier destination for natural snow,” stated Pierre Raymond. “Over two metres of snow fell in December alone – with more than half recorded between December 23 and 27. Over and above this, 146 cm arrived late February, allowing us to offer prime conditions during the March Break period,” he specified.

Beyond Skiing, New Summits Are Reached
Once again, the mountain’s cultural, gastronomic and music events have attracted a flurry of visitors, particularly on the occasion of the Panoramas & Paintbrushes and Great Horned Owl Events, that both spotlight the savoir-faire of regional artisans. In the words of the ski area’s general manager, “the quality of our event and music programming drew a vast number of sports and music lovers, especially this past March 13, when our free Show-z-après-ski featuring Champion and His G-Strings saw the Summit Chalet literally explode with people and energy.”

$16M to Optimize the December 2010 Slide Experience
“With growth like this, upgrades are required to relieve bottlenecks noted at the base on days when attendance is high,” explained Pierre Raymond, reiterating that guest experience remains the focal point among his troops. Summer 2010 makes way for a sizeable worksite, integrating into the skiable terrain a gondola carrying eight passengers per cabin, four trails, a new novice sector with a lift and conveyor lift for beginners, along with expansion in the Mont à Liguori off-piste sector.

Le Massif de Charlevoix
Le Massif de Charlevoix is a tourism and recreation project representing a $230M investment. Beyond Le Massif Ski Area, this original project spans from Baie-Saint-Paul to Petite-Rivière-Saint-François in the Charlevoix. Among other features, the on-territory offer includes a touring train and rail shuttle, close to 400 lodging units of which a 150-room hotel, as well as a 500-seat multifunctional venue. The site is destined to become a genuine experiential laboratory focused on tourism.
